The 29-year-old man from the town was arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday (Thursday, February 6) and has now been bailed until March 20 while investigations continue.

Terry Davies, 24, of South Terrace, Littlehampton was killed when a fire engulfed the front of his flat on September 12, last year.

The investigation was passed to Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team when investigators from West Sussex Fire and Rescue discovered the blaze had been started deliberately using white spirit.

Earlier this month, detectives linked two other incidents involving accelerants to the blaze that killed Mr Davies.

A post-mortem examination showed Mr Davies, who worked at Morrisons in Wick, died from the effects of breathing in smoke.

Four other people were taken to hospital.

Police are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward and contact them on 101, quoting Operation Annexe.

Detective Inspector John Wallace said: “A young man lost his life that night because someone started a fire and we need to find out who is responsible.

“We are appealing to anyone who may hold any information, however small, which will help us with our enquiries and bring justice to Terry’s family.”
