Vandals are making life a misery for pensioners

Early on Monday morning, our car parked outside our flat was broken into.

The passenger door was prised and bent open, the window broken and the ignition wires ripped out.

The cost to us, who are pensioners, to repair was 130.

This is the second time this year this has happened to us. The insurance company wanted to write off our car.

Across the road in Corbishley Green, another pensioner had the same thing happen to his car. The quote was 800 to repair.

As he could not afford it, he lost his car.

On Friday, we passed another car in Orchard Road that was also broken into in the same way as ours.

The young owner was very traumatised.

That is three cars vandalised in this area within days.

We reported the matter to the police, who sent an incident officer to our area.

I wonder how many other cars have been broken into recently?

A year ago, a bus reversed the wrong way up a one-way street, near the Laburnum Centre, smashing into our car. We had photographs taken of the incident, we had many witnesses and the police were there. Our car was written off.

The insurance company would pay only the value of the car '“ 400 '“ although it had done only 20,000 genuine miles '“ and we had full comprehensive insurance cover.

You cannot imagine how sad and depressing it is that this can happen to us. We really need the car only to go shopping, see the doctor and visit QA Hospital in Cosham.

It makes us very distraught and depressed.

There does not seem to be any law and order, protection or police patrols.

There is late, rowdy, yobbish behaviour and swearing in the early hours after pub closing time.

We are very frightened to leave our flat after 8pm.
