VIDEO: Charitable artists present their work at Ark

The Ark Horsham charity held an art exhibition on Thursday to raise money for Great Ormond Street.

Artists Brian Furber and Paul Vowles, who are both linked with the Christian facility, presented their work with pride at the Ark’s building in Horsham town centre.

Brian, 61, suffers from throat cancer and was told he had a year to live six years ago.

He explained he was told by God to draw 1000 pictures to help a charity, despite not having a background in art, and has now completed the works.

He said: “It gives me real satisfaction - I will die a happy man.

“It is the biggest achievement of my life and it will be here after I’m dead.

“I am very proud - this is seven years’ work.”

Funds raised will go towards the printing of books for terminally ill children at Great Ormond Street, with some proceeds also going to the Ark.

Paul, 52, whose designs are often inspired by animals, said the Ark has helped him ‘a great deal’ since the breakdown of a relationship.

He added: “I have done a few things for charity in the past, so I thought I would try to raise some money for charity and support the Ark.

“We are all a family here so we all chip in and try to help each other.”

The Ark’s Lisa Burrell said: “We are amazed by the creativity - it has brought peace and joy to everyone who has come in, and everyone has encouraged Brian.”

The Ark is a Christian charity offering support and guidance to those suffering from problems such as substance abuse, repeat offending and homelessness.
