Village storewins award forcustomer care

Family owned independent store Jempson’s ‘Local’ in Northiam received recognition at this year’s Convenience Retail Awards by winning the ‘Best Communication to Shoppers’ category.

The award was received for showing the most impressive level of customer engagement and innovative approach to the presentation of products and services.

The store was also nominated as a Finalist for Best New Store and Best Small Store.

The Convenience Retail Awards organised by Convenience Store and The Grocer publications recognise and reward the very best in convenience retailing. They celebrate outstanding achievement across convenience stores as a whole, as well as rewarding excellence in key specialist disciplines.

Stephen Jempson said: “Our congratulations to Claire, Chris and their team. To receive recognition within these categories is an outstanding achievement and we are very proud to have won an award”. He added: “We would like to thank all our colleagues and customers for their continued support.”

The 1,100sq ft store opened on 20th March 2014 and the village Post Office was relocated within the store that May.

The awards were presented at a special ceremony at Bishopsgate in London on March 19.

Jempsons also operate a superstore at nearby Peasmarsh and have stores at Rye, Battle and Hakhurst.

They have made donations to Northiam Bonfire Society while the Rye Bonfire Society was a beneficiary of an Easter boot sale held in the grounds of the Peasmarsh store last weekend.

Jempsons has grown to become one of the largest family owned food supermarkets in the UK since George Jempson opened a small village bakery in 1935.
