VOLUNTEER COLUMN: Help spread a little sunshine

Bring Me Sunshine... No, not another re-run of Eric and Ernie’s Christmas special, but a plea for help from a Littlehampton group supporting people with learning difficulties and their families.

The Arun Sunshine Group needs three adults to join its team of volunteers who organise sessions every other Sunday at Dove Lodge, Beach Road, to give carers a break and to provide friendship and activities for those in their care.

The activities include board and computer games, cookery, arts and crafts and trips to pubs, theatres and so on.

For more information on this and other volunteer vacancies, contact Derek Moore, Arun Volunteer Centre co-ordinator, telephone 01903 731223, e-mail [email protected] or call in at the centre on the ground floor, Bradbury Centre, 1-5 St Martin’s Lane, Littlehampton, from 9am-4pm on Mondays and Thursdays and 9.30am-4.30pm on Wednesdays.

Other volunteer vacancies this week include:

The Tamarisk Lifestyle Centre, in Beach Road, Littlehampton, which provides companionship, activities, learning and a cooked meal for active people over 50, has a number of volunteering opportunities, including activity/class leaders, receptionist and kitchen and dining room assistants.

The Villages (Yapton) Children and Family Centre also has a range of volunteer positions it needs to fill.

The centre’s aim is to give young children and their families a better future, in particular the most disadvantages families, in order to reduce inequality in child development and school readiness.

The vacancies include a reception assistant, to welcome visitors and make sure they sign in and are registered; to respond to queries and point people to where they can get more help; to answer and transferring phone calls; and to sell oral health products.

Also needed are administration assistants, to support centre staff with various tasks, such as printing and folding publicity material, filing and inputting data onto database.

The centre would like to recruit befriending and buddying assistants to build relationships with specific families to support their use of the centre and help parents to start and continue to come to groups.

Promotion assistants are required to work with centre staff to create posters, leaflets and “what’s on” guides, and to promote the centre’s services at events such as fetes, forums and community groups, and help with leaflet drops and phone promotions.
