VOTE: Picture perfect Chichester may be '“ but you must take care

CHICHESTER looked picture-perfect as the first flurry of snow arrived in the city.

The Guildhall and Cathedral were a real sight to behold after getting a dusting from the white stuff so many crave for during the festive season. And weather reports say there is plenty more where that came from.

Despite making the city look like a winter wonderland, authorities are reminding people to take extra precautions in the wintry weather.

Chichester District Council has advised drivers to carry a spade, blanket and emergency food and drink in case of a breakdown. Checking screenwash levels and making windscreen wipers and tyres are in good condition is essential. Carrying a mobile phone and ensuring it is properly charged is also key. If drivers breakdown they should not contact emergency services unless they feel people are in danger.

Sussex Police is also asking drivers to take extra precautions in the wintry weather.

Chief Inspector Di Roskilly from the Road Policing Unit said: “It sounds obvious but there are still people who take risks with their own and others’ safety by failing to defrost and demist their windscreens in the morning.”

Police are also warning about the risk of leaving a car unattended while defrosting as it gives thieves access to valuables in the car. They could also easily hop in the car and drive away.
