Wacky divers to take the plunge in River Arun

It’s that time of year again, when daring divers suit up and take the plunge for needy causes across Littlehampton.

Dozens of people are set to flock to the town’s red pedestrian bridge over the River Arun as part of the annual Littlehampton Leap, on Sunday (January 13).

But there are still plenty more spaces left for other brave souls wishing to enter this year’s jump, said co-organiser Terry Monnery, of the Arun Divers – the group behind the chilling fund-raiser.

Terry, Arun Divers’ diving officer, said: “This is my 26th year organising the event and it really does get better each and every time.

“The exultation of having overcome your fear by leaping off the bridge into the icy cold water of the River Arun and surviving the ordeal is a really incredible experience.

“A lot of people get straight back out and dive for a second time because they enjoyed it so much.”

The leap starts at 11.30am, with registration at 11am inside the Arun View Inn.
