BANK HOLIDAY: The lead-in to the August Bank Holiday this weekend seems full of fine weather promise, with high temperatures forecast. On Monday Heathfield's famous Anglo-French market will take place in Station Road throughout the morning until mid-afternoon with its familiar programme of amusements, music and stalls. Let's hope the Brexit vote doesn't put a stop to this cheerful annual event and that we can continue to welcome our French visitors in the coming years.

STRING THEORY: On Sunday String Theory will visit the pub at lunch time from 12.30pm, importing its foot-tapping, string-driven swing music to please our ears.

SEPTEMBER SUNDOWNER: This end-of-summer event will happen on Sunday September 4 from 6pm to 10pm, a perfect end to the summer holidays. Laura Tenison, owner of Old Glebe, has generously offered the use of her marquee in the garden for an event in aid of Friends of Waldron Churches. Tickets are £10 each and will include wine and cheese, a fashion show and music and much more (according to the cheerful flyers and posters). Tickets are available by phoning 01435 862065. Don’t delay. I hear that a second printing was under way last week.
