Wedding party attempt to break hide and seek record

However an attempt to break a Guinness World Record isn’t generally one of them.

But that is exactly what Anita and Stuart Balkham planned as part of their nuptials, with more than 200 guests taking part in what they hoped would be the World’s biggest game of hide and seek.

All 209 guests hid around the Pestalozzi International Village in Sedlescombe on Sunday, while independent observers, including a member of the parish council, looked on.

Although the couple and their guests are still waiting for official confirmation, it is believed the wedding party smashed the previous record, which involved 188 participants.

Catherine Fischl, a friend of the couple who helped organise the day, said: “I think everyone really enjoyed it.

“It was a good way of getting everyone involved, from kids to grandparents, and a good way of celebrating the wedding.”

The idea came from a friend of the couple, who had a long standing ambition to make it into the record books.

Catherine said: “It was all Lizzie Himes’ idea. She has been trying to break records since she was a kid and did not manage to do it until the weekend.”

Londoner Lizzie has previously attempted to break a number of World records, including making the World’s longest paper chain.

Catherine added: “We are pretty pleased with the final result.”

Anita and Stuart, who live in Barcombe, enjoyed some other unusual events as part of their weekend wedding festival at Pestalozzi, dubbed ‘Wedstock’, including a flag competition, camping, creative writing, massage and an animal fancy dress night.
