Project co-ordinator Roy Newnham said: "Typically, the learners are low on confidence and self-esteem. They have no or low qualifications, have been unemployed for some time and may be on probation or in sheltered housing.

"They often have a history of being bullied and, occasionally, abused.

"What they all have in common is they are looking for someone to give them an opportunity."

The next course starts on May 27. It is free and has no effect on any benefit claims.
