PARISH COUNCIL NEWS: At the parish council meeting on Thursday 16 March County Councillor Kathryn Field updated residents about matters arising. She was pleased to inform us that East Sussex County Council had been allocated additional funding for Adult Social Care but conditions around its usage were still being identified. She also expressed her concern for the new national funding formula for schools which would have major implications for local schools with a reduction in funding once additional costs were factored in for many of them. Kathryn was thanked for all her continued support to the parish council and her regular attendance at our meetings.

Friends Against Scams aims to protect and prevent people from becoming victims of scams. There are both local awareness sessions and online training to help individuals become “friends” to enable them to offer support and information to local residents, particularly those who might be isolated in rural communities, more information can be found at www.friendsagainstscams.org.uk

At times funny, more often poignant, Captain Fantasic will be screened on 19 April at 8pm in The Royal Oak.

GOOD COMPANIONS: The Bull Inn, Battle was the venue of the March meeting of The Good Companions, where a delicious two course meal was enjoyed. The staff at The Bull always make us feel like VIPs and really look after us, so much so that the chef came and asked if all the meals were okay. It was a bitterly cold & wet day when we met but there was a fire blazing away close to where we sat. Thank you to all staff at The Bull.

Our next meeting is on April 19th when we will meet at The King`s Head, Battle for lunch.

Speaking about saying thank you members of The Good Companions would like to say a big thank you to Whatlington Parish Council for their generous grant to the group this financial year. This will certainly help to meet costs. Hopefully we can encourage other people to join us for companionship & friendship; meetings on a monthly basis. For details please call Hilda 01634 932135
