Why Drill Hall must come down now

PERSISTENT vandalism has forced a decision to bring forward planned demolition of a century-old town landmark.

One of the two Down Drill Halls must come down now, says East Sussex County Council.

One of the distinctive buildings with their crenellated facades is the home of No. 2262 (Bexhill) Squadron, Air Training Corps and of No. 14 (Bexhill) Platoon, Army Cadet Force. It is also used by Bexhill Youth Services.

But the adjoining drill hall has been long-vacant. It has been the subject of long-term vandalism.

Hardly any panels in the extensively-glazed roof have escaped the attentions of rock-throwing hooligans and rainwater has been pouring into the building.
