Kay said: “I love donkeys and am honoured to become a patron for Safe Haven – a British charity which works so hard to help these humble beasts of burden in very difficult circumstances.

“I look forward to working with everyone.”

Safe Haven provide care for abandoned and abused donkeys in Israel, as well as free veterinary services for working equines in the Palestinian Territories.

Andy Foxcroft, chairman of trustees for Safe Haven, said:“For a respected journalist like Kay to agree to become a patron of our charity is wonderful.

“Her support will really help us bring our work with donkeys, mules and horses in desperate need across Israel and the Palestinian Territories to a wider audience.

“We are so pleased to welcome Kay to the Safe Haven team.”
