BOWLS: Norfolk's Ray targets Nationals return

NORFOLK Bowling Club's Ray Leggett and Malcolm Hosking made the second round of the National Pairs Championships at Beach House Park this week.

Now, Leggett wants the duo to go back again next year. He said: "It's the first time either of us have played there, and it was a marvellous experience.

"Obviously, we've had a taste of it now, and we'll try to get back there again next year.

"We had a lot of support from Norfolk members there, so we'd like to thank all of them, too."

Norfolk stormed through their first round match on Monday morning against Nottinghamshire A, but then lost to Middlesex A in the second round in the afternoon.

Against Nottinghamshire's Stuart Smith and Phil Dickens, who play for Cavaliers, Norfolk's duo, playing as Sussex C, enjoyed a 25-8 victory.

But, against Paddington's Norman Worley and Pat Briscoe, who were playing as Middlesex A, Leggett and Hosking were beaten 28-13. Leggett said: "We were nine down going into the last end and then dropped a six."

Leggett and Hosking had lost in the Sussex semi-finals, but got to the Nationals because Sussex, who have more than 300 competing teams, are entitled to enter three pairs. And Norfolk's duo then won their play-off against Victoria Drive.
