It was good news for the club when the Government and England Boxing announced new measures, allowing six people to train in an outside space.

This meant Horsham ABC are able to open with five boxers to one coach, observing social distancing measures.

Last Monday was the first Monday back open and saw a few boxers back training.

Coach John Essex said: “The numbers were low in comparison to before the pandemic, which we expected, but it was great to see the ones that turned up after three months out.

“The training has changed somewhat, being as we’re training outside in Horsham Park and bag work and pad work, one of our fundamentals of training, is not able to be implemented, but the classes have been fun and it is nice to train in the good weather whilst we have it.

“As a club, we are lucky to have such an outdoor space to be able to continue training, albeit under social distancing measures, within Horsham Park, observing the two-metre distancing.

"We would like to re-assure parents and senior members, who may be worried about coming back, that we are taking every precaution to abide by the rules set in place and hope to see the numbers rise as more people get to hear that we are back training.”

The club have set up a justgiving page to help with the club’s needs whilst they were closed and were overwhelmed with the support that they received, raising £1145 of the £1000 target.
