EP had the better of the game, and Clymping finished on 163-7 in response to EP's 247-2.

Darryl Rebbetts, already EP's record runscorer for a season, moved on to 660 with 81 not out. He faced 100 balls and struck 11 fours and two sixes.

He shared an unbroken 151-run stand with Tom Reeves for the third wicket. Reeves also crashed an unbeaten 81, with nine fours and four sixes, from 88 deliveries. Darryl's older brother, Sean, had hit 64, with 12 fours and one six, at the top of the order.

Clymping included Littlehampton trio Chris Kirkham, Chris Green and Justin Scott. And, it was Scott who took both EP wickets. But, with the bat, they contributed just six runs between them, and Clymping captain Gareth Challen top-scored with 58, which included nine fours and two sixes.

Aussie Andrew Danson struck 25 not out from 85 balls, and Andy Hancock scored 11 runs from 51 balls as Clymping batted out for the draw.

Spinner Dan Williams took four Clymping wickets for 18 runs from 13 overs, and Jack Sunderland held four catches '” at third man, long-on, and two at mid-off.

EP skipper Andy Reeves said: "We can still finish third, but could also finish down in eighth. We are hoping for a top-four finish, although to finish in the top six would still be a great season."

Clymping captain Gareth Challen said: "We were going along quite nicely at 90-odd for two, but then lost three quick wickets, and that made the game dead, really.

"At this time of the season, going for the runs wouldn't change our position in the table.

"At the beginning of the season, we were hoping to get in the top four, and, now, if we get 17 points against Chippingdale on Saturday, we'll finish second, which will exceed our expectations.

"In our first year back in the top division, we can definitely say we've had a decent season."

Broadwater won the title on Saturday, with their victory over Horsham Trinity. Clymping need 17 points from their final game of the season, at home to Chippingdale on Saturday, to secure runners-up spot.

EP are at Broadwater on Saturday (August 23).

In Invitation League Division 2, bottom-club Rustington took six points from their 155-run defeat at Eastergate.

Eastergate scored 217-8, before they dismissed Rustington for just 62.

Up in Sussex League Division 3 West, bottom-club Arundel suffered an eighth-wicket defeat at home to Findon.

Just three Arundel players got into double figures in their total of 143. Opener Richard James hit 63, with 12 fours, from 76 balls, and shared an opening stand worth 39 with son, Bradley.

Captain Will Clark scored 22, and Steve Keighley added 13.

Leg-spinner Mark Stewart took five wickets from his 18 overs for Findon.

Opener Jack Metters then guided Findon to victory with 74 not out. He crashed 12 fours and put on 107 for the opening wicket with Barry Meaney, who struck 38.

Pete Dallimore, in his first game of the year after dislocating a shoulder, smashed 77 for East Preston's Sunday XI in their 45-run friendly win over Ifield. Jack Sunderland added 55 and Sean Rebbetts 54 in EP's total of 265-4.

Dan Williams then took four wickets as Ifield were all out for 220.

Angmering lost their low-scoring Sunday friendly by four wickets to Palmers.

Rob Skinner top-scored with 33 in Angmering's total of 106. Tim Pearson then took two quick wickets, but, after a 58-run third-wicket stand, and four quick wickets, Palmers still eased home with three overs to spare.

London North secured their third victory in the Lord's Taveners Ford Under-14 Inter Cities Cup. They also won the competition in 1998 and 2006, and regained the trophy, with victory over defending champions, Sheffield, at Arundel Castle last Thursday.
