Former Roffey colt inspires Ashes triumph

The England Ladies Cricket team showed the men just how to do it by retaining the Ashes in Australia.

The men’s senior side toiled to a humiliating 5-0 defeat down under but the women have had no such trouble, inspired by a player who first picked up a bat at Roffey Cricket Club.

World class wicketkeeper/batsman Sarah Taylor smashed an unbeaten half century in an unbeaten stand of 114 with captain Charlotte Edwards, who top scored with 92 not out.

The talented pair’s heroics saw England win the first Twenty20 by nine wickets to take an unassailable lead in the series.

Taylor, ranked the number one T20 player in world cricket, also hit a 50 in the final one-day game which Australia won to keep their hopes alive.

Tuesday’s win gave England a 10-4 lead with two T20 games remaining.
