Iden surrender top spot

Iden have been knocked off the top of the East Sussex Cricket League.

The village club has dropped to third in Division One following a three-wicket defeat to new leaders Willingdon, who Iden trail by six points, on Saturday.

Tom Rawstorne top-scored with 59 as Iden were all out for 151 batting first. Robin Mayes took three wickets and Paul Barnett two, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Willingdon completing the double.

Battle remain top of Division Two despite losing to Fletching. Jez Reid hit 75 as Battle made an attacking declaration at 225-5, but a big opening partnership paved the way for Fletching to get home at 228-4.

Faltering Rye suffered another defeat at the hands of Hailsham. Rye were all out for 154 batting first with Will Murray hitting 45 and Hailsham triumphed at 155-5. Five Rye bowlers took a wicket each.

Robertsbridge lost a thriller against Pevensey by one wicket. Ollie Smith top-scored with 51 in Robertsbridge’s 125 batting first, but Pevensey scraped home at 128-9 with three bowlers claiming two wickets each.

In Division Four, Little Common Ramblers drew away to Lewes St Michaels and Pett also contested a draw at home to Rotherfield. Full reports on each of these games will appear in Friday’s Observers.
