Monty helps England to series glory

The Sussex spinner was part of the England side which drew the final match in Nagpur today (Monday) to win the series 2-1.

Panesar returned figures of 1-81 off 52 overs, 15 of which were maidens, during India’s first innings 326-9 declared. England reached 352-4 in their second innings for a lead of 356 when stumps were drawn.

After being overlooked for the first Test, Panesar seized his chance in the second by claiming 11 wickets in the match, including the great Sachin Tendulkar twice, as England triumphed by 10 wickets in Mumbai.

The 30-year-old picked up a further five victims in the third Test as England prevailed by seven wickets in Kolkata. He has now taken 159 wickets in 45 Tests at an average of 32.31 with 12 five-wicket hauls and two 10-wicket matches.

Panesar played five Sussex Premier League matches for Bexhill in 2010, claiming 18 wickets at 17.83 with a best of 7-108. He also scored a half-century with the bat.
