Slinfold make hard work of keeping up their fine start

Slinfold made it three maximum-points wins from the three matches they’ve played by scraping over the winning line away at Keymer & Hassocks.

Having bowled the hosts out for just 59 in 30 overs, Guy Thorne’s men lost eight wickets in stuttering to their modest total in just 16 overs.

Skipper Thorne - who took 3-20 while Phil Awcock claimed 6-26 - said: “It’s three wins from three that we’ve played now (one cancelled) and maximum points which is fantastic, despite scraping over the line. It really should have been much more straight forward than we made it.

“It was fair to say the track gave a lot of interest to the bowlers and both sides bowled exceptionally well. I was again really impressed with our bowling and fielding display. Akeem (Jordan) bowled tightly with the new ball, and Phil (Awcock) bowled a tremendous spell to take 6-25. The lads supported him well with some excellent fielding, and we took a couple of sharp diving catches at first slip from Steve Haines.”

Thorne was less impressed with what he called “complacent” batting on a tough wicket, though at 31-1 Slinfold were cruising to victory. He added: “I didn’t want to be too harsh on the lads as it’s three wins from three.”
