Darts: Averages table is a Cliff-hanger

TUESDAY NIGHT DOUBLE IN LEAGUE

Bognor’s Cliff Prior (Chi Snooker B) went top of the averages table with a dynamic winning average of 23.79.

League action saw seven 100-plus starts with Gary Blackwood leading the way with a 160 shot-in. Others came from Dean Knight (152), Ricky Clark (142), Derek Mitchell (120), Ricky Rayner (108), Simon Bradley (100), Andy Tinson (100).

The first highest shot-out was also recorded with Mick Hales (Claremont) hitting 104.

In division one, The Crown and Claremont share top spot with four points, with Claremont leading in both the singles and pairs divisions.

Results: Div 1: Claremont 8 Royal Oak 1, Crown Snooker 5 Chi Snooker Club B 4.

In division two The Old Barn and The Lamb share top spot with four points with The Old Barn leading the singles and The Lamb leading the pairs.

Results: Cabin 9 Legionnaires 0; Old Barn 6 Little Vic 3; Chi Snooker C 6 Richmond 3; Wheatsheaf 3 Lamb Steyne 6.

Bognor Friday Night Benevolent League

In division one, the league’s first 180 came from BRSA’s Paul Crockford. Richard Ragless (Wheatsheaf) and Rob Collins (Whitehorse Z) both shared the shortest leg with 16 darts.

Results: Wheatsheaf 14 Chi Snooker B 8; BRSA A 4 Whitehorse Z 16.

In division two the first maximum came from the Claremont Cobras’ Gary Blackwood, who also had the weekly shortest leg in the division with 17 darts.

Results: ASC 8 Friary D 13; Claremont Cobras 18 POW B 0; Friary C 11 Royal Oak A 14.

In division three, Chi Snooker Club C’s Adi Linfield opened the divisional 180 table hitting the first one in week one. Lewis Campling (Newtown C) and Rob Rice (Chi Snooker A) started the divisional shortest leg in 20 darts.

Results: Bognor Legion B 8 Chi Snooker C 13; Newtown SC C 18 BRSA III 2; Chi Snooker A 14 Newtown SC B 8.

LAKESIDE WORLD DARTS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Bognor’s Cliff Prior and Matt Bourner both won through last week’s qualifier at Wick and will now take part in the regional finals at Roffey on November 27 with their Lakeside hopes still alive.

MALTA OPEN

Top local players headed out to compete in the Malta Open Mediterranean Cup.

In the ladies’ pairs, Babs Hills (Midhurst) and Becky Vincent (Bognor) made it to the last 16, while Sussex pair Norma Self and Julie Saldanha reached the semi finals.

In the men’s singles local interest had gone by the third round, but in the the pairs Bognor’s Adi Linfield and his partner reached the last eight.

HAMPSHIRE AUTUMN COMPETITION

At Mill Rythe on Hayling Island, there were good performances from the large Sussex contingent.

Chichester’s Hayley Gatford reached the quarter-finals, losing out to ex-Sussex player Donna Rainsley.

In the under-18s, Sussex youth player Ryan Sullivan lifted the title beating Hampshire’s Thomas Chant 3-0 with an outstanding 26.37 average. Sullivan defeated county A player Joe Davis in the quarter-finals. With the Sussex pairing of Mark Davis and Ian Perkins runners-up in the men’s pairs, it was a good weekend for the county.

COUNTY DARTS

Sussex played host to Gwynedd, but had to settle for a draw.

Sussex Ladies played a vital part in securing the 18-18 draw taking eight of the 12 games over the weekend.

Chichester’s Hayley Gatford lost 3-2 to Chrissie Halliday. Littlehampton’s Karen Winter secured a 3-2 win in her game over Gaynor Williams.

In the men’s Bognor’s Gary Blackwood won 3-1 against Arwel Griffiths but Terry Howse also lost a tight match 3-2 against Stephen Roberts despite a 25.25 average.
