Darts: Stars of the Star League get their rewards

Titles went to men’s singles winners Richmond A, with Wheatsheaf the runners-up, men’s pairs winners Wheatsheaf (runners-up Claremont A), ladies’ singles winners Chi Snooker Club and ladies’ pairs winners Chi Snooker Club.

Also presented were the competition and individual awards, dominated by two players.

In the men’s, James Greenfield of the Richmond lifted the Averages Trophy, Tons Trophy and the open singles title, while Greenfield and Phil Hill won the open pairs title.

Top ladies player Hayley Gatford from Chi Snooker Club also won the Captains’ Cup, top averages, the Tons Trophy and the ladies’ open singles title.

Other competition and individual trophies went to Jason Hills of Wheatsheaf (Men’s Captains’ Cup), Gary Blackwood of Claremont A (Men’s Most 180s) and C Prior & K Greene (Hunston, mixed pairs).

SUSSEX COUNTY SUPER LEAGUE

Littlehampton held on to top spot when they were 7-2 winners at Broadbridge Heath, who are at the foot of the table.

Adi Linfield, replacing Matt Bourner after his disappointing game last week, was unable to regain his form and lost 3-0.

But Littlehampton dominated the next seven games with wins from Andy Hills (3-1), Gary Blackwood (3-0), Jason Hills (3-1), Cliff Prior (3-0), Graeme Dutton (3-2), James Stephenson (3-0) and Terry Howse (3-1).

Consolation came for Broadbridge Heath when PDC star Tony Ayres, with a man-of-the-match performance (ave 29.76), defeated Bognor’s Mick Rowland 3-1.

The two bonus points keep Littlehampton six points clear at the top of the league ahead of Worthing.

LANCING OPEN

The open attracted a good turnout with 70-plus competing in three categories, including many of the county’s top players.

Good support came from Bognor and Chichester with the best performances from Bognor’s Cliff Prior in the men’s and blind pairs and Chichester’s top female Hayley Gatford in the ladies.

Prior progressed through a strong field showing why he is top of the county averages. Bognor’s Craig Stoner, showing his hands do more than keep the ball out of the Rocks’ net also dominated on his way to the semi-finals.

In the first semi Prior was drawn against PDC player Tony Ayres and brushed him aside 3-0. But Stoner went down to Sussex’s top player Jim Withers, who won 4-0.

In the pairs Prior and Anthony Oak lost the final to Stoner and Ayres.

In the ladies’ event, Gatford reached the semi-finals.
