Eileen’s 84th birthday celebrated with a five mile run with Joggers

Horsham Joggers’ Eileen Quinton broke the one hour barrier at the 5-mile Fittleworth Flyer race on Sunday - two days after her 84th birthday.

Eileen’s celebrations on Friday included a vigorous early morning training run, before she and other Joggers tackled the tough, multi-terrain race at the weekend.

First Jogger home in 31:46 was Dean Angell, who was followed by Rob Thomson (48:05), Caroline Bransden (50:37), Diane Berry (54:35), Eileen Quinton (59:52), Jenny Boyd (1:02:14) and Victoria Saunders (1:05:49).

Meanwhile, Andy Spriggs, who suffers from motor neurone disease, competed in the Kenilworth Half Marathon with his nephew Chris Spriggs, raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Chris pushed Andy round the course in a wheelchair, finishing in an extraordinary 1:54:33 - a personal best - making them 408th out of 717 runners .

Andy said: “For a wheelchair pusher the course was demanding as it was undulating, with lots of short hills, so he either had to push hard to go up or hold back going down to stop the chair careering out of control. When the wheels started wobbling it got really scary!”
