Chichester City sunk by a shot of Jack Daniels (well, it was a header actually...)

And on an afternoon suited to Pimm’s on the lawn, it was Jack Daniels who sank Chichester.

It started so well for City, who were gifted an opening goal on eight minutes when Hailsham keeper Harry Duff shouted for a back pass but allowed Scott Dormer to rob him and slot in.

Then, a brilliant free-kick on 40 minutes by Perry Northeast put Chichester in the driving seat.

The captain floated the ball over the Hailsham wall before it dipped into the goal just under the bar.

But it all went horribly wrong after the interval. Hailsham pulled one back on 57 minutes in a tangle in the six-yard box which led to Shane Saunders scoring at the second attempt.

From the restart, Dormer tried to score from the centre-circle, with Duff just waking up in time to avert the unexpected danger.

It was about the only piece of work the keeper had to do in the second half, although Northeast weighed in with another long-range effort that grazed the bar.

Two minutes later Hailsham were level thanks to Jamie Salvidge’s perfect cross that set up Saunders in front of goal. Then on 85 minutes substitute Daniels stole the show with a close-range header to leave the home supporters in a state of disbelief.
