Chichester ladies weighed down by Anchorians

There was another defeat for Chichester ladies reserves - but a victory for their first team. Meanwhile, Felpham Tigers were beaten.

Chichester City Reserves 2 Anchorians 3

Anchorians caused problems for the Chichester defence from the off, taking the lead after just ten minutes.

Resilient defending by captain Becky Steed kept Anchorians at bay and Chichester began to pick up the pace.

Kerri Grant equalised on the half-hour mark. Gabi Fisher went close with a long-range effort.

Chichester were sloppy at the start of the second half and conceded two goals in five minutes to go 3-1 down.

A change in formation to 3-4-3 allowed Chichester to begin taking the game to Anchorians.

Grant got her second with 20 minutes to go and Chichester pushed hard for the equaliser. Lauren Ellis chested down to Megan Evans, who hit a great volley.

Chichester had a shout for a penalty late on but it wasn’t given.

Woman of the match Annie Richardson worked hard in midfield. The next game is at home to Crawley Wasps and three points are needed.

Felpham started brightly with Remi Crawley and Rachael Haddock linking up well in midfield but the forwards got very little change out of a determined Polegate defence.

Both defences were on top, with Jemma Holmes outstanding for Felpham, until the Polegate centre-forward was able to beat some lacklustre challenges to steer the ball past Tanya Wake to give her side the half-time advantage.

A defensive mix-up allowed Polegate to snatch a second and with Polegate on a roll they cemented a deserved win with a stunning third to leave Felpham rueing a defeat and some unfortunate injuries.

FELPHAM: Wake, Merriman, Luff, Paine, Makey, Haddock , C Johnson, Holmes, Bailey, Crawley, Kitchen. Subs: Martin, Bond, Flower.
