Eastbourne Town 2 Chichester City 2

Sussex League division one

CHICHESTER held leaders Eastbourne Town to a 2-2 draw at the Saffrons.

The result means City have now gone seven league matches without a win, but it was still a highly-satisfying performance against strong opposition.

A quality strike from Liam Baitup gave Town the lead after 15 minutes but City levelled on the half-hour mark when Matt Boulton converted his maiden first-team goal following a corner.

Baitup restored Town’s advantage after the break, but City brought on two frontmen from the bench and forced another equaliser with four minutes remaining, again from a corner, with Michael Frangou claiming the goal.

CITY: Ender, Eyres, Bingham, Pearce, Hibbert, Boulton, Case, Hegarty, Ansa, Frangou, Edwards. Subs: Silvester, Bush.

In the Reserve Section West, City defeated Selsey 3-2.

Jake Edwards and Tommy Lee-Smith put Chichester 2-0 up before James Parsons and Toby Lempriere levelled things. But at the finish, Joe Manners struck the winner to keep them in second position.

City made progress in the county cup in a close-fought game played in relentless wind and rain.

Chi made the early running with Graham Bush and Dan Hegarty going close before the Anvils replied with chances of their own.

Crawley Down finally broke through on 68 when George Wallis fired home from 25 yards. The lead lasted until the 83rd when Bush equalised.

Extra-time brought changes from both sides but it was City who got the winner as Michael Frangou took advantage of the tiring Anvils defence to score.
