Depleted Billingshurst side claim a battling point at Selsey
A much depleted Billingshurst side (due to a combination of injuries and work commitments) made their way to Selsey on Saturday and came away with a battling 0-0 draw.
Once again they started slowly and after 5 mins, Luis Correia made the first of a number of fine saves when Selsey broke through. After 28 minutes, Correia could do little about a Selsey header but fortunately both posts intervened. The follow up shot was then blocked by James Bessant and ‘hurst survived to half-time.
The away team started the 2nd half more brightly and had more of the ball but as the game progressed it was Selsey who were dominating the play. A combination of misplaced passes & woeful finishing from the home team and some fine goalkeeping allowed Billingshurst to see out the game for the draw.
Not a match for the connoisseur but Manager Lee Spickett's comment after the game probably summed it up “A fantastic point on the road today for an already depleted squad, then to have 2 pull out on the day leaving a squad of 12 mean I was proud of the side”
In the clubs other games, the Reserves lost 4-2 at home to Cowfold with goals from Archie Inkster and Jack Wingate and the 3rds drew 1-1 with Jack Cox scoring for Billingshurst.
