A depleted Clymping side had three players turn up ill, played two people up front who had not played all season, and did not have a recognised defender in their squad.

Clymping manager Mike Williamson admitted they were fortunate it was only four goals put past them.

He said: “To be honest, it’s that time of the season, a game with nothing on it and I had six missing.

“Everyone has decided they wanted to go on holiday and we went up there with two or three youngsters.

“Three turned up ill with man flu and, being quite honest, we did well to keep it down to four.

“I had two that hadn’t played all season, a goalkeeper and centre-midfielder or full-back playing out of position and no recognised defenders playing.”

Clymping were 1-0 down after 15 minutes as a Rob Witton clearance fell to Grant Miller, who blasted into the top corner from 25 yards.

Asa Pearson headed two quick goals from corners to make it 3-0 by the half-hour mark.

Clymping battled well in the second half and Joey Nash had a great chance well saved, and Andy Brown hit the bar from 25 yards.

Midway through the second period, however, Pearson completed his hat-trick to end any Clymping resistance.

Clymping complete their season at home to Hurstpierpoint on Saturday.
