Duo sign up ahead of latest friendly

Hastings United have brought in a pair of players as the countdown to the new football season continues.

Tom Gilbert and Andy Henson have joined the U’s on a dual-registration basis with Eastbourne Borough, and both featured in the 5-3 friendly win at home to a young Gillingham XI on Saturday.

United recovered from conceding twice in the opening 10 minutes to record their second pre-season victory thanks to goals from Matt Maclean (2), substitute Sean Kelly (2) and Kenny Pogue.

The Ryman Football League Division One South outfit will continue its warm-up games with a trip to Sussex County League Division Two side Eastbourne United AFC tonight (Tuesday). Kick-off is 7.45pm.

United have two more friendlies away to Sussex Division One teams Crowborough Athletic and Newhaven on Saturday and next Tuesday before the serious stuff begins with a trip to Chipstead on Saturday August 10.
