The only goal of the game came from Wrexham striker Ollie Palmer after he flicked the ball over Corey Addai from close range at an acute angle following a deflected cross.

Crawley dominated for much of the game but could not put the ball in the back of the net, with striker Danilo Orsi missing the best chance of the game from a few yards out after Will Wright picked him out with a superb cross.

Apart from that, the Reds were restricted to mostly shots from distance, with few challenging Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo. Wrexham went down to 10 men after a reckless challenge from substitute Andy Cannon on Adam Campbell, but even the man advantage could not pave Crawley a way through Wrexham’s tight defence.

“Frustration would be the word I would use,” said Lindsey.

“We dominated the ball all game. We were outstanding. We created really good chances especially in the first half, but we probably had more of the ball in the second half but didn’t create as much clear-cut chances as the first half cause of the way they defended deep.

“I'm really proud of my players. I thought that we were excellent today against a really strong side.”

Crawley had 25 shots, but only five of them being on target. Even though of this, Lindsey denied that his side had a lack of killer instinct.

“We did enough to win this game today in terms of chances as well, but I also think in the second half with all the possession they camped in we didn't create clear cut chances.

“We made some poor decision when he had them camped in, we shot when we should have done an extra pass, we had an extra pass when we should have shot, once we beat the man, we then did not pick anyone out we didn’t beat the man enough.

“Frustrated with the final third stuff in the second half.”

Wrexham have had no problem scoring this season but defensively they have been vulnerable, which makes it even more surprising that Crawley could not find a way past the Welsh side today, with Lindsey giving credit to Wrexham in the way that they played.

“You got to give credit to the Wrexham team, the whole team were behind the ball. Made it really hard, there were no spaces.”

Lindsey was also dealt a blow with injuries with Ben Gladwin and Adam Campbell coming off. When asked for an update, he said: “No, too early.”

In the defeat to Doncaster last Tuesday, midfielder Liam Kelly came off injured and was ruled out of the game against Wrexham, with Aaron Henry taking his place in the midfield alongside Gladwin.

“Big miss because he is a very good player,” said Lindsey when asked about Kelly.

“But thought Aaron Henry was outstanding today. Very similar to Liam in the way we play.”

Crawley Town have an EFL trophy game away to Sutton next Tuesday before returning to League Two action after the international break at Broadfield Stadium against Crewe Alexandra on the 21st October.
