Midhurst rained off - reserves wished they had been too

MIDHURST’S visit to Steyning was rained off but the club’s reserves were able to play their home fixture against Wick and Barnham.

Perhaps they wished their game had also been rained off as they lost 7-2.

The opening 20 minutes saw Midhurst play plenty of entertaining football. Eight minutes had elapsed when leading scorer Luke Sheldrick put Midhurst in front with a well-taken goal following a good pass from George Day.

Poor defending let in the visitors for three in 20 minutes before Ben Nightingale took a pass from George Day to pull one back.

Wick were much the better side and led 5-2 at half-time.

They scored their final two goals in the last half-hour.

MIDHURST: Ben Standen, Ryan Brown, Tom Merritt-Smith, Joshua Coles, Harry Caims, Daniel Richards, Georgio Day, Damien Wakeford, Ben Nightingale, Luke Sheldrick, Callum Dowdell.

This Saturday sees Midhurst host Eastbourne United in the Division 2 Cup (2pm). The second XI are away to Worthing United.
