“Now let’s push on in the league”

With their FA Cup involvement over, now’s the time for Hastings United to push on in the league.

That’s the message from player-manager Sean Ray with the U’s lying fourth-from-bottom of the Ryman Football League Premier Division.

Ray said: “It’s time to kick on now the FA Cup’s gone. We need to take that experience and that confidence into our league games. We’re not going to let a hangover kick in. It’s an excuse and we’re not going to have excuses for failing.

“I’m not happy with qualifying for the third round of the FA Cup and avoiding relegation because we’re better than that. Our league targets are staying exactly the same. We’ve played all the teams around the top and we’ve competed with them all.”

United face the bottom two in their next two league fixtures. They go to Enfield Town today (Saturday) and host Carshalton Athletic next weekend either side of a League Cup quarter-final at home to Whitehawk on Tuesday night.

Matt Armstrong-Ford (knee) is expected to be out for at least three more weeks, while Zac Attwood is still struggling with a hamstring problem. Ray (knee), Elliott Cox (groin) and Matt Whitehead (calf) should be fit for Enfield.
