Paul Cook is keen to recruit another forward, with attempts to prise Caolan Lavery away from Sheffield Wednesday continuing to frustrate.

It is understood the search has now seen the Blues look in the direction of Davies, who has been with Bradford City since last summer.

The 28-year-old recently returned from a three-month lay-off following a knee injury.

That enforced absence means he has been restricted to 17 appearances this season, failing to score so far.

Davies made his comeback in the Bantams’ third-round FA Cup defeat to Bury, where he missed a spot-kick in a penalty shoot-out.

Yet the hard-working striker has scored goals at Derby and Bristol City during a career which has taken him to the Championship.

He also spent the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield United, netting in their 5-5 play-off, second-leg draw at Swindon.

Kieron Freeman, recruited by Pompey yesterday on a season-long loan, played in the same match, which proved to be Nigel Clough’s last in charge of the Blades.

However, any interest in Davies could be scuppered by Bradford’s own injury problems in attacking positions at present.

Meanwhile, Pompey have agreed to cancel the contracts of Rommy Boco and Michael Poke, whose deals were scheduled to end in the summer.

The last of Boco’s five appearances came in November against York, subsequently making only two further squads as an unused substitute.

Poke, who arrived in the summer of 2014 yet never made an appearance, has now joined Eastleigh.
