Blues and Seaford both stayed up as Langney Wanderers and Ferring did not meet the ground grading criteria to come up from Division 3, and Rustington boss Trevor Waller now believes positive times lie ahead for the club.

He said: “We’re pleased to be staying up in Division 2 as the club worked hard to get senior football.

“We didn’t really earn the right to stay up but we’ll give it a good go next season.

“I’ve signed a couple of experienced players, we’ve got some good young players coming through and I’m hoping we’ll push on and be at the top end of the table.”

Steve Sargent has come in as Blues’ new first team coach and the club will also run a under-18 youth team again.

Tom Simmonds will run the youth side and Rustington have also set up a link with Rustington Otters’ under-16 team.

Waller added: “Tom was with Bognor’s youth team last season and has good links there.

“It’s good to have young players coming through and it’s good for them to see a pathway from youth football into senior football.”

Blues begin pre-season training on Tuesday at Jubilee Avenue.

New and old players interested in playing senior football are welcome to attend, with the club also welcoming any goalkeepers interested in playing for the club.

Anyone interested can attend training, from 7.15pm, or call Blues boss Trevor Waller on 07778 015682 for more information.
