Rye boss: Now win the league

A first ever Sussex County Football League title is now very much the target following last weekend’s FA Vase defeat to Three Bridges when Rye had two players sent-off.

Straight after that match, Rye manager Price said: “Those players owe it to the club to go and win the league. We’ve got to go and win something. But we can’t afford any more slip-ups.”

Rye have finished runners-up in Division One four times, including last season, and second is the position they currently occupy. Rye trail Pagham by two points having played three more matches.

“We’re a few points behind Pagham, but they are starting to slip-up,” continued Price. “There’s a lot of points to play for, and we’ve got to go on a run and not get beaten.”

Rye will begin the second half of their league programme tomorrow (Saturday) as they started the first against Horsham YMCA. They won 2-0 at Gorings Mead on the opening day and a repeat result at The Salts would do nicely.

Scott Ramsay is expected to be fit after missing both games over the past week, while Shaun Loft is due to return to hospital today about his injured shoulder, but is now back at work and could return next weekend.

Summer signing Joe White is expected to be in the first team squad for the first time tomorrow after playing a couple of games for Burgess Hill Town this week. Kick-off is 3pm.

Duncan McArthur didn’t feature against Crowborough after his red card against Bridges and Price said: “I don’t know what I will do about Duncan after Saturday. It’s something I will speak to Clive (Taylor, chairman) about.”
