Tonight’s Sussex football programme has been hit by the continuing icy conditions – with the showpiece Senior Cup tie between Burgess Hill Town and Brighton and Hove Albion U23s called off.

The Hillians tweeted this morning: “To the shock of absolutely nobody, this evening’s Sussex Senior Cup tie with @OfficialBHAFC has been postponed.”

Lewes were frozen off as they planned to visit Carshalton last night in the Isthmian premier on Monday night, while Three Bridges’ home clash with Hythe Town in the Isthmian south east – planned for Tuesday evening – was also called off.

Also off – for the FOURTH time – was the Senior Cup tie between Billingshurst and Arundel. That has now been pencilled in for next Tuesday, December 20. Eastbourne Town v Bexhill in the SSC was also frozen off.

Peacehaven v Crowborough was another Sussex Senior Cup called off – that one just a couple of hours ahead of kick-off.

Other matches were still on as of late afternoon.

Horsham are due to host Newhaven in the county cup and had asked for volunteers to help clear snow and ice from their 3g pitch at the Camping World Community Stadium.

Worthing’s National South fixture against Weymouth on their 3G pitch can go ahead, and in the same division Eastbourne Borough’s trip to face leaders Ebbsfleet was declared ‘on’ after an afternoon pitch inspection.
