Sidley defender joins Common

Sidley United defender Zack McEniry has signed for Little Common.

There was plenty of talk on social network site Twitter on Sunday about McEniry leaving Gullivers and the transfer has been completed in time for Common’s trip to Broadbridge Heath tomorrow (Saturday).

Common player-manager Russell Eldridge said: “He comes with experience, he’s strong in the air and he’s a very good defender on his day. If he’s got the right attitude, he will be a very good addition for us. It brings that little bit of extra competition and it gives us a couple more options.”

McEniry returned to Sidley in the summer having missed almost the whole of last season with a serious knee injury sustained playing against the Blues for St Francis Rangers.

Sidley assistant manager Jamie Podmore said: “He needs regular first team football and we can’t give him that at the moment. He’s come a long way since his injury, he’s a good lad, and he’s got a lot of ability, but he needs to get that desire in him to get to his peak fitness. Going to Little Common will help him and I’m sure it will help Little Common as well.”

McEniry arrives at Common ahead of an important game in the race for a top three spot. Common are third at present, but tomorrow’s opponents Broadbridge Heath are just one place and two points behind them.
