Sidley target top five place

Sidley United can move into the top five with victory at home to AFC Uckfield tonight (Wednesday).

The Blues are currently eighth in Sussex County Football League Division One, but will rise above Lingfield, Three Bridges and Peacehaven & Telscombe if they win.

But Sidley manager John Lambert knows his team faces a difficult task even though they have beaten Uckfield twice already this season - once in the reverse league fixture and once in the FA Vase.

Uckfield, who are two places and one point behind Sidley having played two extra matches, drew both of their league games against title hopefuls Rye United.

Callum McDonald is struggling after splitting his eye against Southwick on Saturday, but Bryce Masters seemed to think he would be alright despite breaking his nose in the same fixture.

Lambert was hoping he might get Adam Day (pictured) back, but Lawrence Brand is likely to be out for another week or two with a rib problem and Paddy Cody’s knee will keep him out for a while yet.

Kick-off at Gullivers is 7.45pm and a summary of the match will appear on this website tomorrow morning.
