Stephens was shown a straight red for a challenge on Gaston Ramirez in Albion’s promotion decider at Middlesbrough on Saturday, but Albion immediately lodged an appeal.

However, The FA tweeted today: “Dale Stephens’ three-match suspension remains after his claims of wrongful dismissal and excessive punishment were both rejected today.”

He will miss both legs of the play-off semi-finals with Sheffield Wednesday and would also miss the final at Wembley against either Derby or Hull should Albion get through.
