Jamie Crone gave United a half time lead with his second goal in successive Ryman Football League Division One South matches, but Danny Curd equalised for Hillians a quarter-of-an-hour from time.

United made a bright start to the game, although it was Hill who had the first real attempt at goal in the ninth minute when Pat Harding’s left-foot shot was well beaten aside by Josh Pelling.

Hill then enjoyed the upper hand slightly, but it was United who drew first blood out of the blue in the 37th minute. Matt Darby played in Crone, who found the far bottom corner with a left-foot shot across goalkeeper Alan Mansfield.

United also started the second half strongly. Tim Olorunda saw a rasping long range drive well tipped away and Sean Kelly headed just wide from the resulting corner. Ben Judge then saw a back post shot from a Sam Adams free kick scrambled off the line.

The hosts gradually started to get on top again, though, and Spencer Slaughter saw a long range free kick well gathered by Pelling. Hill equalised moments later when Pelling did well to save Max Miller’s initial effort, but Curd was on hand to turn home the rebound.

Hill certainly looked the more likely winners thereafter, although Matt Maclean almost bundled the ball home for United in the third minute of added time. Hill nearly won it themselves with the final kick, but Max Lake Edwards couldn’t quite get enough on his close range effort from Darren Budd’s set-piece.

United (4-4-2): Pelling; Gilbert, Kelly, Judge, Corrigan; O’Connor (Ellis 56), Olorunda, Maclean, Darby; Adams, Crone (Pogue 89). Subs not used: Woodley, Shonk, Burbridge.
