Welsh international keeper wants to find next generation of goalies

It's not often you get a chance to learn footballing skills from a former international.

But that’s exactly what’s on offer for Bognor-area youngsters in the Easter holidays.

Ex-Welsh international keeper Paul Jones, who played for QPR, Wolves and Southampton among others, is running goalkeeping coaching courses on the 3G pitches at The Arena sports centre off Westloats Lane.

Taster sessions will be held on two Thursdays – April 14 and 21 – costing £10 per person.

Under-sixes right up to under-18s will be catered for.

The sessions are being sponsored by Lotus Styling, whose owner Daren Terry has known Jones for years.

Terry said: “My son Luke, who’s now 13 and being looked at by Pompey, is a goalkeeper and has had a lot of advice from Paul, who I’ve known for a long time through him coming in to have his hair cut.

“Often football coaching isn’t run by keepers, so for those who are or want to be goalies, Paul is the perfect person to pass on some experience.

“I’m delighted to sponsor it and if it goes well, we may well do it again.”

There’ll be sessions running from 10am to 11am for under-sevens up to under-12s.

Then from 11am to 12.30 it’s the turn of the under-13s to under-18s.

Youngsters can turn up on the day or book in advance by emailing [email protected] or calling 07739 250195.

Anyone taking part is reminded no studs are allowed on the 3G pitches, and is asked to take a drink with them.
