Westies end Bexhill unbeaten run

Bexhill United suffered their first league defeat of the season at the hands of neighbours Westfield.

The 3-1 victory at The Parish Field on Saturday was Westfield’s sixth win in seven Sussex County Football League Division Two games and they are now within a point of Bexhill in the table.

After Matt Cruttwell made a fantastic save in the first couple of minutes, Westfield were the better side in the first half and led 2-0 at the break thanks to Gordon Cuddington’s 12th of the season and Bradley Owens.

Bexhill rallied in the second period and Steve Morris pulled one back with his 12th of the campaign, but Westfield sealed the points via Danny Woodley’s lob.

Elsewhere in the same division, Little Common struck in added time to snatch an unlikely 2-1 win away to Seaford Town and go third in the table.

Seaford held sway for much of the first half, but it was Common who led at the break after Jared Lusted blasted through a crowded box into the roof of the net in the seventh minute of added time.

Although a defensive mix-up allowed Nathan Millroy to equalise five minutes into the second period, Common won it when Jamie Crone beat the last defender on halfway and slotted under the goalkeeper for his 20th of the season.
