WICK & BARNHAM United Football Club boss Jon Tucker described his side’s draw at Seaford on Saturday as their worst performance of the season.

Seaford were without a point in 25 County League Division 2 matches prior to the match. Matt Noble fired Wick ahead but a Craig Pooley goal on 61 minutes ensured the home side secured their first point of the campaign.

The draw leaves Wick second in the table but they are now just three points clear of third-placed AFC Uckfield, while fourth-placed Bexhill trail them by five points but they have played two games more.

Tucker said he was embarrassed by his players’ showing and is looking for a response in their five remaining matches.

He said: “We have made promotion a lot harder for ourselves now.

“A lot of the team turned up at Seaford and thought that the three points were safe before a ball was kicked.

“The pitch was in a terrible state but that is no excuse and I told the lads before to take nothing for granted.

“Seaford were not the best footballing side, however, they were passionate, hungry and driven to get their first point.

“We had a few players just walking around the pitch without a care and that’s not acceptable.

“The amount of points we have dropped in recent weeks is alarming and something that we have to address.

“Instead of being in a two-horse race for the title with Worthing United, we are now looking over our shoulders.

“We have some tricky games coming up now and all of the players know we must improve. The squad I have here is very young and I’m hoping that the squad will have learned a lot following this result.

“Everywhere I look on social media and online, I see people talking about how Wick were the side that Seaford picked up their first point against.

“As a manager, that really hurts and I hope that all the players are hurt by that as well.

“We need to respond in the remaining matches now.”

Wick went ahead on 34 minutes thanks to a Noble strike. The visitors nearly doubled their advantage just before the break but Rob Hutchings blazed over.
