Youth football: Colts leave Yellows feeling off-colour

UNDER-TEN

Chichester City Colts 11 Worthing Town Yellow 0

The Colts started quickly in this Challenge Cup tie and were rewarded by a goal with barely two minutes on the clock.

The boys kept this tempo up until half-time and went in 6-0 up at the break.

They carried on in the same vain in the second half and scored another five to make the final score 11-0.

Rhys Rawlings and Owen Moore both scored two and Jake Wells scored a hat-trick.

Ryan Johnson was named MoM after four assists and one goal.

Worthing Town Red 3 Felpham Colts 7

It wasn’t long before Felpham were ahead in this cup clash as Luke Hubbard fired home.

It was soon 2-0 when a great throw from Daniel Kearns allowed new signing Ryan Innes to race on and coolly slot home.

Hubbard netted the third with a fine shot before Worthing got one back just before half-time with a fine header from a corner.

The second half started with Hubbard scoring a 20-yard free kick and adding another two great goals.

With Fraser Partridge and Sam Blunt superb in defence and with Kearns, Rhys Nicholas and Kai Williams amazing in midfield, the Colts continued to dominate.

Zak Cogger produced two outstanding saves but couldn’t stop Worthing getting a second.

Man of the match Luke Dent raced on to a pass and slotted home.

Worthing grabbed their third at the end with a fine run and shot.

This was the Colts’ best display of the season and even Max Searle, too ill to play, cheered his team-mates on.

UNDER-13

Chichester City Youth 9 Lancing Rangers Select 2

Chichester recorded their seventh league win of the season with a comprehensive win against Lancing.

Playing with a new attacking formation of 3-3-3-1 the team comprehensively outplayed Lancing in all areas.

Within five minutes Josh Airton scored the opener, with Alex Smith adding the second.

Lancing pulled a goal back with a well-taken finish from just inside the area.

Chichester regained the momentum and man of the match Airton scored twice again before half-time with one a fantastic effort with his back to the goal which he flicked into the net for the goal of the game.

Just before half-time a great Chichester move down the right was put into his own net by a Lancing defender.

Chichester started the second half well and a cross from Josh Hubbard was deflected in by another defender.

However, Lancing’s next goal was in the correct net to make it 6-2.

Late on, Chichester stepped up another gear with the midfield trio taking complete control and setting up a number of chances which produced three further goals from Airton, Smith and Tom Burden.

UNDER-14

Chichester City Colts 4 Felpham 3

A double from Fynn Turner-Kilburn, a debut goal from Ollie Doran and a scrambled finish saw the Colts (pictured above) edge a seven goal thriller against Felpham.

Colts took the lead in the first half with a tap-in at the back post for debut boy Doran. Colts missed further chances to extend their lead and were punished when Felpham scored with a good long-range shot which sailed over Baxter.

Chichester started the second half strongly and took the lead after a goalmouth scramble.

Roman’s cross-shot from a tight angle was touched in by Davies at the back post but is one for the dubious goals committee to decide.

Colts midfield of Davies, Roman, Chambers and Poole began dominating midfeld and after sustained attacking play the referee played a good advantage after in a foul in the box on Roman, Fynn Turner pouncing on the resulting loose ball and shooting into the corner.

Turner-Kilburn scored his second, applying a finish off the shin after a strong run and cross by Roman.

To keep things interesting, sloppy defending from the Colts allowed Felpham to score their second, quickly followed by a third after a handling mistake by goalkeeper Baxter, who otherwise had a solid game.

The Colts defence of Hewitt, Reading, Johnson, Mead and Wiseman snuffed out any further Felpham attacks and Colts could have increased their lead in the final few minutes through Johnson and Turner-Kilburn.

Davies missed a smart chance at the back post, shooting over after a good run and cross from Chambers.

MoM was Alex Wiseman.

Predators Youth 3 Hastings Rangers Youth 6

Predators entertained a strong county league side in the county cup and struggled to come to terms with their powerful midfield.

Predators took the lead when Dom Humphries headed home a corner, but Hastings responded with two goals before Humphries equalised.

Hastings regained the lead as the referee overruled the offside flag to allow a breakaway goal to stand. Just before half-time the Predators defence allowed a Hastings forward to avoid the offside trap and score a simple goal.

Hastings scored twice more at the start of the second half before Humphries completed his hat-trick with another header.

Predators could take comfort from a good all-round performance against a strong side.

UNDER-16

Predators 4 Horsham 6

With Horsham in the league above, Predators knew they were in for a tough Challenge Cup game.

Irish put a ball through to Josling, who went round the keeper and found the net.

Both teams battled hard and it wasn’t long before Horsham drew level.

Hillier found an opening and put Predators 2-1 up at half-time.

Within minutes of the second half starting Horsham drew level. But as Predators took the kick-off following Horsham’s goal, a rebound saw a long shot from Irish go in.

A handball saw Predators awarded a penalty. Josling stepped up to the spot and his shot beat the Horsham keeper.

Predators thought they had the game sewn up but Horsham fought back.

The ball was rarely out of Predators’ half and keeper Williams was tested continuously.

Horsham’s perserveerance paid off with two goals scored in quick succession to take it to extra-time.

Predators played great football but Horsham quickly went ahead. Predators could not regain control and Horsham scored again.
