Youth football: Glew holds Selsey together

A terrific contest between Selsey and Lancing saw both sides full of energy and desire.

The early part of the game found Selsey under intense pressure but resolute defending held the visitors at bay. Then against the run of play a wonderful through-ball by Cody Jackson sent Morgan Glew racing clear of a pack of defenders before calmly slotting past the goalkeeper.

A few minutes later it was 2 -0 to Selsey. Glew again found himself bearing down on the keeper before expertly drilling the ball past him into the net.

The final few seconds of the first half saw some sloppy defending from Selsey which allowed Lancing back into game with a simple goal.

The second half saw some great football from Selsey with the calm passing of Alfie Netlay-Harris and the lung-bursting runs of Alex Urraco Spencer down the wing.

It needed a great fingertip save in the dying seconds from Kaiden Parish to ensure Selsey hung on for victory.

A feisty encounter had both teams battling hard in midfield. A couple of great saves by Joshua McCulloch kept the score at 0-0.

Lancing who broke the deadlock and despite great pressure from the Colts and good runs by Jack Kennedy and Theo Perrin the boys couldn’t find the net.

The Colts went into the second half 3-0 down and Max Hopp came on. Ben Roberts fed Louis Godfrey, who scored a well-deserved goal for the Colts. Attacks from George Purvis and Harry Angell looked positive but went wide.
