Goodwood to host Great Volitgeur from York on Saturday

In addition to the Group Two totesport Celebration Mile and the Group Three toteswinger Prestige Stakes, Saturday's card will now kick off at 2.10pm with the Group Two Ladbrokes Great Voltigeur Stakes which has been transferred to Goodwood following the abandonment of York earlier this week.

Declarations for the mile-and-a-half Ladbrokes Great Voltigeur Stakes, one of the leading trials for the St Leger, have to be made by 10.00am tomorrow, Friday, August 22. Any horse that was confirmed at the six-day stage is eligible to be declared tomorrow.

Goodwood Clerk of the Course, Seamus Buckley, repots the ground at Goodwood to be in fine condition.

He said: "Despite the fact that we have had approximately 20 millimetres of rain over the last three weeks, the course has recovered well and the groundstaff have done a wonderful job of getting it put back.

"We are excited about the programme of racing planned for Saturday, the highlight of which is the totesport.com Celebration Mile but we have the added attraction of the Ladbrokes Great Voltigeur Stakes.

"At the moment, we are describing the going as good to soft. The GoingStick reads 7.2, but with drying conditions coming into the area we expect the ground to be no worse than the slow side of good."

Callum MacKay, Goodwood's Marketing & PR Manager, said today: "Everyone at York will be hugely disappointed that racing hasn't taken place this week and all we can do is sympathise.

"As we now have the Ladbrokes Great Voltigeur Stakes we would like to welcome all metal badge holders at York and encourage them to come racing this weekend.

"We have two fixtures this weekend and if any York Members want to come and see the Great Voltigeur they are more than welcome to attend both of our meetings as our guests."
