The Angling Trust (the governing body of the sport) has funded the event under its "Get Fishing" Scheme with the aim to promote new anglers from all backgrounds in the the pastime.

Like cricket the sport historically was elite and boring, Fly fishing used to be tweedy jackets and old men fishing only for trout or salmon on expensive exclusive private waters Today, just like T20 cricket with influences from New Zealand and the States, the sport has reinvented itself in to a vibrant multi species pastime that appeals to all.

Fly fishing now encompasses saltwater fly fishing for bass and mullet in estuaries such a the Adur in Shoreham by sea. Fresh Water Coarse - any species you'd traditionally target with a float rod and worm - rudd, roach and perch. Then there is specialist fly anglers who go after the pike or carp on the fly.

But just like cricket the purist still rate fly fishing for trout and salmon is the pinnacle of the sport and is infinitely challenging in it own right. With this new diversity of fish species and venue the price of taking up fly fishing has become very affordable - for saltwater fly fishing no rod licence is needed and the UK is bless with an extensive and accessible coastline.
