Lee bags a bronze at British Champs

Lee Emanuel won a bronze medal in the 1,500m at the Sainsbury's British Championships

Emanuel, who spends much of his time training in the United States but comes home for the domestic outdoor season, crossed the line in a time of 3:52.34 at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

A slow, tactical race was won by Chris O’Hare, from Edinburgh, in 3:51.36 with James Brewer, from Cheltenham, second in 3:51.92.

Emanuel said: “It was bittersweet really. I was a bit disappointed because as an athlete you always want to win, but it’s been a good year. I’ve been pretty pleased with how I’ve come back from running horifically last year.

“I was always prepared for a jog and then a sprint at the end. I executed it okay, but two people executed it slightly better. Maybe my finishing kick isn’t quite what it could be.”

“I’m enjoying it a lot at the moment; I really don’t want to stop,” said the 28-year-old. “My main aim is to run fast so I can get a bit of financial backing.

“I’ve run my best time in three or four years recently. I’m one of only two (British) people to have run the B standard for the World Championships and that was a big step forward for me. I’m the number one in England so I could be going to the Commonwealth Games next year.

“I definitely want to focus on next year; I still think I’ve got a lot to give. I’m hoping to run the World Championship A standard; I was a second off it.” Emanuel plans to run the mile at the upcoming Diamond League meeting in London.
