Pep Guardiola's side began the day a point ahead of Liverpool and finished the season on 98 points after their win over the Seagulls.

Albion took the lead through Glenn Murray, before goals from Sergio Aguero, Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan wrapped up a second successive title.

Gross felt City deserved to be crowned champions but added Liverpool were unfortunate to get 97 points and finish runners-up.

He said: "Over the year when they get the most points they deserve to be champions. There was one team who was really unlucky and they had an unbelievable year you have to say.

"I've never seen something like that in my life but at the end they were one point better so they deserve to be champions."
