Ollympic gymnast sees Southbourne youngsters shine

Southbourne Gymnastics Club's gymnasts have returned from competitions with plenty more medals to add to their tally for the year.

At the regional floor and vault championships in Guildford, Paige Hanson won silver and Abby Moss took bronze.

This competition was followed by the Sussex multi-discipline championships with hundreds of gymnasts taking part in a number of different disciplines including artistic, acro, tumbling and team gym.

The competition was tough with gymnasts of national level competing. Paige Hanson came third in her age group and Abby Moss won silver.

The event was attended by Craig Heap, Commonwealth gymnastics medal winner and Olympian, meeting gymnasts and coaches.

The Southbourne club have just celebrated their eighth birthday with a gym party with more than 100 of the club’s gymnasts and their families participating.

Having nine gymnasts attending the first class in 2003 they now have more than 350 members, ranging from recreational and beginners’ classes to gymnasts competing at county and regional level.

With the club holding their own invitational competition on November 27, where more than 220 gymnasts will be competing from many clubs throughout the area, the hard work continues.
